The Belgian Association for Neuro-Oncology (BANO) is open to all physicians and paramedics dedicating all or part of their work and expertise to treat neuro-oncology patients and/or to do scientific clinical, fundamental or translational research in this field.
Our first aim is to give access to first class scientific information. We organize every year a national symposium. This gives us the opportunity to invite top class speakers who are all experts in their field. During this event, we also offer 1 or 2 prize(s) to young researchers in order to promote research in Belgium.
The BANO is involved in clinical research projects. Initially, the association provided access to temozolomide for patients with relapsed grade III gliomas. We have set up a randomized national multicentric clinical trial evaluating the potential benefit of prolonged adjuvant treatment with temozolomide for glioblastoma patients. We also participate to inter-group studies (e.g. with EORTC) and have regular contacts with our French colleagues of ANOCEF (Association des Neuro-Oncologues d’Expression Francophone) and NENO (Nord-Est Neuro-Oncologie).
The association is also committed to defend the interests of brain tumour patients in various medical societies and on the level of the regulatory authorities in a growing number of occasions.
In the future, the BANO wishes to continue to contribute to all the work that is still needed to improve the survival and the quality of life of our beloved patients.
